St. Paul Lutheran Ministries is seeking a Business Manager to serve our church and school community in Merced, CA. This multifaceted role provides the backbone for the ministry’s financial operations, human resources, and administrative needs.
Position Overview
As Business Manager, you will work alongside our Senior Pastor, Principal, and ministry leaders to ensure smooth operations across our church, school, preschool, and Hmong ministries. Your role will involve financial management, human resource administration, reporting, and fostering collaboration within our Christ-centered community.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting/Financial Management
- Invoice, collect, and record tuition fees and other ministry payments.
- Maintain accurate records for accounts payable, receivable, and collections.
- Reconcile bank accounts and financial records across all ministries.
- Prepare and administer budgets for church, school, preschool, and Hmong ministries.
- Oversee payroll, benefits, and tuition estimates for upcoming fiscal years.
- Track fundraising financial efforts and order essential supplies (school, office, etc.).
Human Resource Management
- Administer payroll, benefits, and compliance programs (Health Insurance, Worker’s Comp, Retirement, etc.).
- Maintain and update the Employee Handbook and track signatures annually.
- Organize mandatory training sessions for staff and volunteers.
- Plan and assist with the annual August Staff Retreat.
Reports & Meetings
- Prepare financial reports and present them to the Mission and Ministry Board.
- Submit health and public notices, as well as local, state, district, and synodical reports.
- Attend key meetings (staff, Mission and Ministry Board, CNH District) and serve on the Financial Aid Committee.
Miscellaneous Responsibilities
- Assist with daily office tasks (phones, first aid, laminating, copying, etc.) if needed.
- Provide support for school attendance tracking, library, and Birthday Books programs.
- Support recess/lunch duty and occasional staff coverage – in the event of shortages.

- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and thoughtfulness in all tasks.
- Have experience with financial operations (accounts payable, receivable, payroll).
- Be proficient in QuickBooks (Desktop and Online), Microsoft Word, and Excel, and Google Online Tools.
- Exhibit excellent organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of Lutheran faith and education is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of RenWeb and FACTS Education Management software a plus but not required.
