The Summer Camp Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and wellness of campers and staff, providing medical care, managing medications, and ensuring a safe camp environment. This role requires a compassionate and organized healthcare professional who enjoys working with children and young adults in an outdoor setting.
Primary Responsibilities
o Oversee the health and wellness of summer camp participants and employees.
o Writes the summer health plan and creates health training presentation for all summer camp employees on an annual basis.
o Review all camper and staff health forms as enrollments are completed.
o Provide a Monday update to all camp directors of medical concerns for that week of camp participants.
o Partner with Director of Auxiliary Services on process for all camper and camp staff medical forms and health evaluations.
o Develop individualized care plans for campers with special medical needs.
o Administer medications and provide routine care during camp hours.
o Address injuries, illnesses, and health emergencies promptly.
o Monitor environmental conditions to prevent heat-related illnesses or injuries.
o Partner with Director of Auxiliary Services in summer camp inspection preparation and actual inspection with state of Maryland.
o At the start of each camp week, introduces themselves to all camp directors at all camp locations to give first aid bags, pick up medications and put face with a name.
o Order summer camp health supplies (separate from school year supplies)
o Attend any staff orientations or tours with vendors for introductions and reminder of processes
Key Qualifications
o Minimum five years nursing experience with school setting experience preferred.
o Must be a registered nurse with a BSN degree.
o Must have an active Maryland license and current certification in CPR/AED training.
o Must be an empathetic caregiver, excellent communicator and team player.
o Demonstrates the ability to work independently and establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others both internally and externally
o Must maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
The St. Paul’s Schools has a compensation scale based on direct years of nursing experience and degree held. For this opportunity, our hourly rate is $30/hour - $40/hour. This is a seasonal position with camp running from Monday, June 9 through Friday, August 15, 2025, with the exception of Juneteenth (June 19) and Independence Day (July 3 and July 4). Depending on availability, there could be pre-camp work or post-camp work aligned with the role which will also be compensated.
