What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Communications position at St. Paul's United Methodist Church?
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for developing, overseeing, and executing the communications arm of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. This position will ensure that information disseminated through the various channels accurately represents the church and effectively advances the missional priorities of the church.
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Identify the message and campaigns of St. Paul’s by collaborating with pastors, staff, lay leadership, and church members.
- Develop and manage the overall communication strategy for St. Paul’s. This includes creating and maintaining communication policies and procedures, ensuring a consistent St. Paul’s voice and brand, interpreting digital analytics, and utilizing the appropriate media channels in strategic ways.
- Generate, identify, and/or create visual, photographic, and written content.
- Maintain St. Paul’s website with accurate, updated, and compelling information. Additionally, this includes using Search Engine Optimizations to promote greater website visibility in search engines.
- Utilize social media channels to invite broader participation and to promote the church’s values, stories, and events in meaningful ways.
- Produce regular communication and other occasional churchwide email communications.
- Oversee the timely creation and accuracy of worship materials, including bulletins, slides, inserts, and other materials for Sundays and special services (including funerals).
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, monthly Ministry Council meetings, and other meetings as needed. Additionally, collaborate with the Communications facilitator.
- Support and coordinate the church’s audio/visual team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.
- 4 or more years of related communications experience.
- Proven competence in the use of technology for content creation and communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 software, WordPress or equivalent software and the ability to become proficient in utilizing the church management software and other systems as needed.
