What are the responsibilities and job description for the Church Nursery Attendant position at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church?
Summary Provide dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care and formation to our children while the parents are at worship or other events in a clean environment.
Qualifications
- Experience in caring for children between the ages of 0 to 5 with the ability to adapt and
interact with a variety of personalities and special needs.
- At least 21 years of age
- Satisfactory completion of background check
- Completion of CPR training for infants and children.
- Must adhere to St. Stephen’s Safe Church Child and Youth Protection Policy Guidelines
- Must complete all Safe Church modules required for nursery workers prior to starting work.
- Supply at least three references.
Position Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing age-appropriate care which includes:
o Feeding
o Changing diapers (Universal precautions should always be used while changing
diapers or dealing with bodily fluids)
o Escorting children to the bathroom
o Maintaining a safe environment
o Putting children down for naps
o Holding children if needed
o Sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, play,
and prayer
- Be polite, courteous, and friendly to all children, parents, and volunteers.
- Arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the Morning Service. Childcare hours include every Sunday (10:00a.m.-Noon). Depending upon the number of nursery staff available, the expectation is to work all Sundays even if a Sunday falls on a holiday unless otherwise discussed. You will have the option to work at other church events if available and interested.
- Stay until children are secured with a responsible parent or adult.
- In the event of an emergency notify the parent in person or via cell phone.
- Straighten the nursery room and clean all toys and furniture before leaving the nursery. All toys that have had contact with saliva will require special attention with the sanitizing solution available in the nursery.
- Report any issues to the Rector, Vestry Advocate, Parish Administrator, or Director of Christian Education which hinder you from carrying out your duties or responsibilities.
- Communicate in advance by phone to the Rector:
o Any planned absences with an advance two-week notice
o Any unplanned absences at least two hours prior to the shift
