Reports To: Director of Music
Compensation: Hourly Position with a maximum salary of $12,000-$15,000. No Benefits.

Job Summary
The Accompanist plays a vital role in helping the church accomplish its overall mission to reach, nourish, and serve the community so all may experience healing and new life through Jesus Christ. They do this with a specific focus on enhancing the music ministry of the church and being an integral part of reaching our community through worship. This staff position works closely with the Pastor(s) and Music Ministry Director, as well as the Worship Committee Chair and Multi-Media Volunteers to accomplish this vision and must value working collaboratively as a team player. The schedule of this position is flexible. Regular Sunday’s off, weekly practice time, and meeting schedules will be negotiable in conjunction with the Director of Music, Head Pastor, and the Chair of Staff Parish Relations. Easter, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Christmas and Easter Cantatas, and World Communion are nonnegotiable Services/Events.
Qualifications
Besides a personal commitment to Jesus, an appreciation of the Christian faith as expressed through the United Methodist Church, and a love for music--enthusiasm, organizational skills, clear and direct communication, and consistent preparation are essential in this position. Bachelor’s Degree in music performance or related field with significant experience in playing organ and/or piano, as well as accompanying instrumental and vocal music ensembles is preferred. Skills on the piano and an ability to accompany a choral ensemble are essential requirements for this position. Applicant being proficient in organ is a preferred qualification.
General Job Description/Responsibilities
1. Work hours typically include Sunday mornings from 8:00 to 10:30 AM; Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 PM (mid Aug – mid June), and occasional evening and weekend hours for special worship services such as Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas Eve, etc.
2. Play the organ/piano for the traditional worship services (in conjunction with the music director – duties can be shared) and for all special services (Lent, Advent, Christmas, Easter, etc.)
3. Prepare and perform the keyboard part for both the Easter and Christmas Cantatas.
4. Accompany the Chancel Choir for all rehearsals and worship services in which they sing.
5. Accompany any other music ensembles or soloists on an as needed basis
6. Practice and prepare hymns and music for Sunday services and special worship services; including preludes and postludes.
7. Although not required for the position, the Accompanist is encouraged to provide musical support for weddings and funerals as requested by the Pastor and compensated by the person(s) for whom such services are performed.
8. The Employee shall comply with all stated standards of performance, policies, rules, and regulations found in the Employee Handbook of St. Thomas United Methodist Church.
