Bilingual Outreach Associate

Overview:

St. Vincent de Paul of Bend is seeking a Part-Time Bilingual Associate to assist primarily in our food pantry, with additional duties supporting translation across various programs and services. This role will be integral in maintaining the smooth daily operation of the pantry, ensuring our Spanish-speaking clients are fully supported, and offering translation services as needed throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Food Pantry Support:
• Assist in the daily operations of the food pantry under the supervision of the Pantry Manager.
• Support the pantry team in maintaining inventory levels, restocking shelves, and ensuring the pantry remains organized and clean.
• Ride with the pantry manager to NeighborImpact and assist with loading and unloading food from the truck.
• Act as a primary point of contact for Spanish-speaking clients, providing translation support during food pantry visits.
• Volunteer Support:
• Aid in supervising and supporting volunteers as needed during pantry hours, ensuring clear communication and proper roles.
• Translate communications between volunteers and clients when necessary.
• General Assistance Across Departments:
• Provide translation and support to other departments as needed, including administrative tasks and client communication in Spanish.
• Help with the translation of vital documents from English to Spanish
• Assist with client intake, helping to explain pantry rules, guidelines, and available services.
• Reply to Spanish messages or other communication as needed

Qualifications:

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs
• Experience:
• Experience working with or supporting a nonprofit organization is a plus.
• Previous volunteer experience or experience in food distribution is desirable but not required.
• Skills:
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle difficult situations with empathy and professionalism.

Additional Requirements:

• Driver’s License and ability to drive a box truck if necessary for pantry operations.
• Background Check is required before a formal offer can be made.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
