What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Women's Shelter Support Staff position at St Vincent de Paul?
Monday-Thursday: 11pm-9am
Qualifications:
Must support and model to clients and staff members, the guiding principles of the St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) and Birkenfeld-Stella Maris House Mission and Vision.
Incumbent must have a personal self-care routine that will contribute to a professional and healthy work culture; supporting compassion, accountability, open communication and respect. Must have the ability to cope well with stress and not “buy into” the crises of clients and to see crises as a therapeutic opportunity to assist clients in creating change for themselves and their families.
Have the ability to communicate well; both orally and in writing and to document information clearly.
Incumbent must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all patient-related information.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily completion of client household chores.
- Maintains a clean and orderly shelter at all times.
- Ensures that no unregistered guests are on the shelter premises.
- Ensures beds are clean and prepped for incoming clients in a timely manner; on the same day or night of client's exit. Ensures all rooms are fully stocked.
- Reports any concerns or problems that occurred while on duty to the Shelter Manager.
- Makes appropriate contacts in the case of emergency or critical incident and completes written Incident Report. Is calm during crisis.
- Models respect and compassion to all clients and utilizes motivational interviewing and harm reduction principles and techniques to minimize resistance and encourage client change.
- Alerts Shelter Manager immediately and facilitates quick-dip urinalysis testing when clients appear to be under the influence of mood/mind altering chemicals while on the premises.
- Documents activities in Daily Log each shift including time signing in, events, tasks and any information that would be helpful to the Shelter Manager and Case Manager.
- Tracks supplies in house including food, cleaning supplies, paper products, etc. and updates Shelter Manager on needed items.
- Completes daily room checks to ensure room cleanliness, holds clients accountable if their room is not clean.
- Holds clients accountable for following house rules and maintains order in the home.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients inside and outside of the shelter; including after a client exits the shelter.
- Proactively checks task tracking app daily and completes work independently.
