Urban Farm Coordinator and Case Manager

Job Location : St. Vincent de Paul Administrative Offices; Voucher Center / Food Pantry; community locations as needed

Status : Full-time, 40 hours; salaried, non-exempt (FSLA classification-professional)

Hours / Schedule : 9 am – 5 pm; Monday – Friday, with some evening / weekend hours

Wage : Competitive Salary; biweekly pay schedule

Job Summary

St. Vincent de Paul is seeking to hire a full-time team member to serve in the capacity of urban farm coordinator and case manager.  SVdP is all about people.  This person will be directly involved with nurturing the growth of the neighbors we serve. We are starting a hydroponic farm operation. Under the direction of our Director of Program Services, this person will oversee the farm operation from seed to serving, coordinate education programs, and help maximize the nutritional output of the farm, as well as the potential economic benefits of the produce. This position will be focused on farm management 75 % of the time.  The other 25 %, this person will perform tasks and projects assigned by our Director of Program Services.  This portion of the position will be dedicated to supporting our Back2Work Program, our high intensity workforce development program, as well as performing other case manager duties, including direct contact with program participants.

Education and / or Experience Requirements

  • S. / B.A. / A.A. in Human Services, Agriculture, Communications or related field preferred or similar combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in gardening, hydroponic gardening, or agriculture, preferred; training will be provided on the specifics of how to operate the farm.

  • Essential Functions

  • Grow a variety of produce
  • Manage farm site including cleaning and upkeep of farm; coordinate maintenance issues
  • Continuous education of farm procedures and best practices
  • Coordinate disbursement of produce with Director of Program Services
  • Educate and supervise staff and volunteers interested in working with the farm
  • Support Back2Work program as instructed by Director of Program Services
  • Provide case management support and services

    Benefits

    Full-time employees are eligible for accrued flex days; holiday pay (7 holidays); and participation in Dental and Vision insurance plans.  Health insurance is not offered.

    Physical Requirements

    While performing the duties of this  position , the employee is regularly required to see, talk, or hear. The employee is seated at a desk for periods of time; but will also walk; bend; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms to lift equipment, seed, produce, files, use office equipment, and open cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
