Pay Rate: $28 / hour
- W2
- 37.5 hours/week
Duties:
- Receiving mail and packages from UPS, US Government Client, Fed Ex, etc.;
- Mailing letters and packages using the stamp machine, UPS/Fed Ex slips, and mailing or calling for pick up from postal services;
- Answering the main office phone and directing the phone calls to the proper person and/or giving the proper phone number with regards to the matter the consumer calls for (the 2 Poughkeepsie legal assistants have been answering the phones more frequently during this period based on the Teams schedule);
- Communicating (e-mail and/or phone) with the Court of Claims, Supreme Court Chambers, & Clerk Offices for three counties to verify and obtain information with regards to the calendar, claims, return dates, index no's, motions, etc.;
- Updating the Poughkeepsie Regional calendar on Outlook with regards to new return dates for ongoing cases;
- Close cases in NY Matters;
- Archive cases in MY Matters and PAM;
- Write up and send out to the involved parties the Notices of entry (NOE) for supreme court and Court of Claims decisions/judgments;
- Communicate with the NYS Comptroller's Office on obtaining payment for Judgments in favor of the petitioner/claimant. Gather the proper documents and forward to the Comptroller's Office;
- Communicate with Parole and/or DOCCS regarding any decisions in favor of the Petitioner/Claimant;
- Communicate Parole and/or DOCCS with obtaining records with regards to Inmate Petitioners/Claimants;
- Communicate with the court of claims and/or Supreme courts on requesting extensions on return dates;
- Schedule witnesses for deposition and trial;
- Schedule depositions;
- Schedule court reporter;
- Assemble exhibits for filings;
- Prepares and files with the courts all associated court papers;
- Prepares and develops affidavits, affirmations, and other motion-related papers;
- Prepares and develops draft discovery demands, BOP demands, Medical demands, EBTs;
- Prepares and develops draft discovery responses, BOP responses, and Medical responses;
- Prepare and develops responses to bailments;
- Prepares and develops correspondence and all relevant case materials for the record;
- Prepares and develops answers and/or motions for Article 78's and Article 70 (writ) cases;
- Research matters as assigned by AAGs.
