Associate Director, Scientific Communications
Contract: 12 months (Potential to FTE)
Location: San Rafael, CA 94901

Requirements:
Education:
- Advanced degree (MS or higher) in life or health sciences (Required)
Experience:
- 7 years in scientific communications, publication planning, and/or medical writing in a pharmaceutical company or medical writing agency (Required)
- 2 years managing direct reports (Preferred)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Publication Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute the scientific communication plan for BioMarin’s skeletal condition program (focus on US market)
- Contribute to the scientific messaging strategy and maintain the Scientific Communication Platform
- Align messaging and strategies across teams to address knowledge gaps
- Oversee literature and gap analyses to support publication strategies
- Organize and manage expert meetings to develop publication strategies
- Collaborate with external experts and vendors for content development
- Support scientific congress activities, including symposium content development
- Assist with treatment and management guidelines development
2. Publication Content Creation
- Research, draft, and edit scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations
- Manage agency and/or contract medical writers and graphic designers as needed
- Ensure compliance with ICMJE and GPP 2022 authorship/publication guidelines
- Maintain and reconcile data within the publication development database
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding scientific communications
- Participate in cross-functional team meetings to share updates on communication plans
- Provide support for Scientific Communications budget management
Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate complex scientific data
- Advanced knowledge of statistical and clinical research concepts
- Understanding of biotech/pharmaceutical clinical and regulatory processes
- Strong leadership and ability to lead cross-functional teams
- Ability to effectively collaborate across teams
- Experience managing direct reports (Preferred)
