GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of HR Operations and Compliance, this Generalist is responsible for the approval and monitoring of the Federal Family Medical Leave Program, Extended Medical Leave, Sick Leave Bank and Voluntary Leave Donation program for the school division. The position also facilitates the reasonable accommodation process as outlined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, the individual serves as a liaison with Payroll & Benefits on all medical leave for the division. This position is also responsible for implementing and tracking all medical leave based on the VRS legacy and hybrid plans for the division.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee FMLA and ADA for Stafford Schools
- Serve as a liaison for the Department of Human Resources and SCPS Administrators regarding employee FMLA, Extended Medical Leave and other long-term leave options to include ADA.
- Meet with employees and provide options for leave eligibility and assist in the completion of the request.
- Respond to general inquiries from employees and administrators regarding leave policies.
- Responsible for the approval and tracking of all FMLA/Extended Medical Leave Program requests for all division employees.
- Remain informed about and implement appropriate changes to FMLA and ADA by federal and state governments.
- Responsible for all allowable leave benefits and accrual balance for FMLA and Extended Medical Leave.
- Administers the Sick Leave Bank eligibility and Voluntary Leave Donation Programs.
- Assist with statistical reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Prior experience demonstrating proficient use of various computer applications and databases including Google and Excel.
- Experience with spreadsheet development is required and related human resources applications required (HRIS).
- Three years of prior experience in the human resources benefits field is preferred including FMLA and ADA experience.
- HR professional certification is desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Family and Medical Leave Act and state regulations pertaining to leave under the Act.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and its administration.
- Able to quickly gain considerable knowledge of Stafford Schools Medical and Maternity Leaves, Sick Leave Bank and Voluntary Leave Donation Program.
- Thorough knowledge of Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits under the two programs for legacy employees and hybrid employees.
- Knowledge of business office practices and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment inside an office, with low noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
