Accreditation Coordinator (Part-time)

Hiring Range : $29.83 - 37.28 per hour

This is a 28 hour per week position

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK :

The position of Accreditation Coordinator is a highly responsible professional position that coordinates, oversees and plans the Sheriff's Office adherence to the standards set forth by the Virginia Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition (VALEAC). Work is performed under general supervision with considerable latitude for sound independent judgement.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Develops, writes, revises, and manages the Sheriff's Office catalog of policies and forms to meet accreditation standards; maintains accreditation files; conducts regular reviews of policies and procedures to meet all current VALEAC standards, legislative mandates and judicial rulings.
  • Coordinates collection of information / documentation and maintains files to provide proofs of compliance with the Virginia Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition (VALEAC) standards.
  • Utilizes PowerDMS Software for Accreditations
  • Coordinates review of all general orders, policies and procedures on an as needed basis, but at a minimum biennially and ensures the department remains in compliance.
  • Ensures all annual and / or time sensitive reviews, reports, audits and inventories are completed as required by the Sheriff's Office and VALEAC standards.
  • Identifies and verifies compliance with established law enforcement standards, correcting any noted deficiencies through policy, training, or other administrative measures.
  • Stays abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process to include proposed changes or amendments to the standards, and assesses the impact of changes on current policies and procedures.
  • Serves as Sheriff's Office liaison with VALEAC and other law enforcement agencies within Virginia.
  • Functions as main point of contact for Re-accreditation process; Directs on-site inspection of the Sheriff's Office by VALEAC assessors.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of law enforcement accreditation standards (VALEAC) including management philosophies and operations and related familiarity with state, federal and other local agencies and organizations

  • Thorough knowledge of the Code of Virginia, Sheriff's Office General Orders, law enforcement principles, procedures and techniques
  • Knowledge of Federal and state law and changes to law due to court decisions
  • General knowledge of reviews, reports, audits and inventories prepared by members of the Sheriff's Office
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout the Sheriff's Office
  • Ability to handle a variety of issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form
  • Ability to multi task and work under minimum supervision
  • Ability to plan, organize and compile information
  • Skilled in evaluating the best method of research and then exercising appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters
  • Skilled in time management implementing work activities in accordance with priorities and schedules
  • Proficiency in utilizing various software programs, including MS Office, PowerDMS, and Adobe Suite.
  • Education and Experience

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    Bachelor degree in Public Administration, Business Management, Criminal Justice

    3-5 years of experience in a similar role

    Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience to meet the knowledge / skills / abilities for the position.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

    The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete the hiring process which may include an interview, fingerprint and criminal history check, polygraph, background investigation and pre-employment medical exam to include drug and alcohol testing

    A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

    Maintain VALEAC Virginia Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition Membership

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT :

    This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, sitting, walking, grasping, and repetitive hand motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
