Primary Purpose:
The Behavior Instructional Teacher is responsible for collaborating with administrators, classroom teachers, and special education staff, to provide support, training and modeling for all students with behavioral needs. In addition, the Behavior Instructional Teacher is responsible for providing support to autistic students and other students who demonstrate severe behavior disorders. Provide students with appropriate in-person and distance or virtual instruction in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
· Master’s Degree in Education/Special Education (preferred)
· Valid Texas teaching certificated with required endorsements or training for subject/level assigned
· Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) (preferred)
· Demonstrate competency in the area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
· Knowledge of area assigned
· Working knowledge of federal laws, state guidelines, and local district policies
· In-depth knowledge of specialized instruction options and strategies for teaching students with special needs in the areas of behavior
· Provide staff development sessions in the areas of behavior and model effective instructional and teaching strategies for students with special needs
· Perform other duties as assigned
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Utilize research-based Positive Behavior Support strategies to promote and maintain classroom management and therapeutic rapport with students.
2. Provide campus support through modeling strategies, developing classroom schedules, creating materials, demonstrating strategies, district training sessions, etc. for campus staff for students with behavioral needs.
3. Maintain a collaborative working relationship with students, parents and school personnel.
4. Implement student IEP’s, including behavior intervention plans, and accommodations/modifications of materials and curriculum.
5. Collaborate with classroom and special education teachers to align lesson plans to the general education curriculum.
6. Conduct daily social skills training through research based social skills curriculum.
7. Monitor the compliance of the utilization of BIPs in the classroom.
8. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for district staff.
9. Effectively implement educational programming in the least restrictive environment for all students. Implement lesson plans prepared by teachers that are developmentally and age appropriate based on student grade level and IEP’s through accommodations and modifications.
10. Adhere to campus/district attendance policy as assigned by supervisor.
11. Follow rules, regulations and policies of Stafford MSD and follow directives from supervisor.
12. Safeguard confidentiality with regards to students with disabilities in the areas of behavioral and academic performance.
13. Record service implementation on approved logs (inclusive support, accommodation logs, BIP tracking forms)
14. Collect and analyze data in the areas of academics, behavior, social and self-care.
Communication:
15. Establish and maintain open communication between students, teachers, parents and administrators.
16. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
17. Use effective communication skills to articulate information accurately and clearly.
Classroom Management and Organization:
18. Create and maintain a physical and virtual classroom (hybrid) environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students with behavior challenges. Monitor student behaviors inside and outside both the general and special education classrooms. (during class, in the hallways, between classes, during school assemblies).
19. Create a classroom environment that integrates and celebrates each student’ cultural values, ethnic background, and home language
20. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
21. Collect and track appropriate data according to each student’s individualized behavior plan
22. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
23. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
