Position Summary:
The Counselor in Training (CIT) will assist in delivering substance abuse services within the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) while gaining supervised experience required for licensure or certification. The CIT will co-facilitate group therapy sessions, provide individual support under supervision, and learn to implement evidence-based practices for clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in facilitating group therapy sessions focused on relapse prevention, coping skills, and substance abuse education under the supervision of a licensed clinician.
Provide individual support sessions to clients as directed and supervised by licensed staff.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop, review, and update treatment plans.
Observe and learn best practices for conducting substance abuse assessments and screenings.
Document client interactions, group notes, and progress in the electronic health record (EHR) system in compliance with agency policies and state regulations.
Participate in clinical supervision sessions and ongoing training to enhance knowledge of addiction treatment and therapeutic techniques.
Support clients in developing recovery goals and connecting them with community resources.
Assist in client intake and discharge planning processes under supervision.
Adhere to agency policies and ethical standards, maintaining client confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Enrolled in or completed a program for addiction counseling, social work, or a related field.
Previous experience in behavioral health or addiction treatment (preferred but not required).
Licensure/Certification:
Active registration as a Counselor in Training (CIT) with the appropriate state board.
Commitment to completing required supervision hours and licensure or certification process.
Skills & Abilities:
Passion for supporting individuals in recovery and addressing substance use challenges.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining accurate documentation.

Work Environment:
Outpatient clinical setting.
Supervision:
The CIT will work under the direct supervision of a licensed clinician (LAC, LPC, LCSW, or CAC) and receive regular supervision to meet state and program requirements.
