What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Accountant position at Stahl?
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Accountant to join our dynamic construction team. This hybrid role can be based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Grimes, Iowa.
In this role, you will manage the financial aspects of our construction projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining the financial health of our projects and supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality construction services on time and within budget.
Job responsibilities as the Project Accountant include but are not limited to the following:
· Effectively communicate with project team members and the CFO regarding all facets of the project accounting function. Participate in project meetings as the primary accounting department representative.
· Accurately and timely process subcontractor pay applications, vendor invoices, change orders, budget revisions, and other job cost entries. Ensure approvals from PMs/Superintendents before finalizing entries or processing payments.
· Prepare owner-pay applications, including compiling appropriate documentation and supporting schedules. Before submitting applications, obtain approvals for owner billings from PMs and Superintendents.
· Proactively communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and unions to confirm current balances owed, resolve billing problems or payment discrepancies, and collect appropriate compliance documents.
· Regularly communicate with the project team to ensure that subcontractor and vendor work has been accepted, compliance documents have been received, and payments are appropriate and authorized.
· Review project accounting reports to ensure accuracy and notify the project team of any discrepancies or adjustments needed.
General Responsibilities
· Ensure compliance documents, such as COIs and certified payroll, are in place.
· Communicate any concerns with subcontractors, vendors, architects, owners & internal team.
· Process weekly certified payroll for the union sister company, Tekton
· Participate in the month-end closing process and complete assigned duties on time.
· Meet strict daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines
· Contributes positively to the team by setting examples of confidentiality, courtesy, job flexibility, conscientiousness, dependability, professionalism, and attention to customer service.
· Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending approved training.
· Perform all additional responsibilities and duties as directed by the CFO.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance degree or equivalent work experience.
· Must have 3 or more years of experience with AIA G702 & G703 documents
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to interact with employees and vendors clearly and professionally.
· Ability to work independently and as a team member, with emphasis on accuracy, communication, and organizational skills, and meeting required deadlines.
· Strong work ethics include honesty, thoroughness, and dependability.
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledge of construction accounting principles and practices.
· Experience with NetSuite ERP System.
· Experience with Procore Project Management System.
This position reports to the CFO.
Salary : $75,000 - $87,000
