What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer School Success 2025: General Education Teachers - High School (Grades 9-12) position at Stamford Public Schools?
- Design and develop lessons that meet the individual learning needs of all students.
- Align and adjust classroom strategies and activities to Connecticut Content Standards.
- Set appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils' learning and motivation. Set clear targets for pupils' learning, building on prior attainment.
- Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time.
- Use teaching methods which keep pupils engaged, including stimulating pupils' intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources.
- Set high expectations for pupils' behavior, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.
- Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this assessment for future teaching.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment so all students can interact and learn.
- Mark and monitor pupils' class and homework providing constructive oral and written feedback, setting targets for pupils' progress.
- Recognize that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to develop pupils' understanding by relating their learning to real and work- related examples.
- Understand the need to liaise with agencies responsible for pupils' welfare.
- Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues including support staff.
- Cooperatively work with school staff and community resource groups to effectively integrate problem-based learning into the teaching and learning process.
- Identify clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences appropriate to the subject matter and the pupils being taught.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Summer School Administrator and/or Head Teacher.
- Current Educator Certificate in the appropriate content area.
- Currently employed by the Stamford Public Schools.
- Demonstrated excellence in grade level/subject appropriate teaching.
- Demonstrated successful experience working with students.
- Evidence of the ability to work cooperatively with staff.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to his/her work.
- Familiarity with national, state and local curriculum standards and framework.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing research-based instructional strategies.
- Evidence of organizational skills and willingness to pursue tasks to a successful completion.
- Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.

The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.
Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.
GENERAL STATEMENT:
The Summer School 2025 high school program will offer an array of courses for students grades 9-12 referred by their high school counselors, teachers, and/or principals. The Summer School High School teacher will plan and deliver instruction and must make a six-week commitment to teach in the Summer School Program
