Production Supervisor

Summary: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating variety of machines to produce meat products by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Develops, recommends (to upper management), and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
• Suggests (to upper management) changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of related department or work crew.
• May be asked to act as a contact for USDA.
• Acts as a contact for emergency situations including but not limited to fire alarm events and evacuations.
• Analyzes orders to estimate worker hours and create production schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
• Computes amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production schedules, and requisitions materials from storage area.
• Plans flow of materials through departments.
• Calculates and documents production yields.
• Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
• Inspects and measures products to verify conformance to specifications.
• Directs workers in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products, which fail to meet standards.
• Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Suggests (to upper management) changes in working conditions and use of equipment to maintain a safe workplace.
• Works with maintenance personnel on scheduling preventative maintenance on equipment.

• Maintains time and production records.
• Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
• Prepares for third party audits with assistance from Quality Assurance.
• Maintains certain aspects of the facility as required.
• Works with Vice President of Operations and Production Manager on special project, as needed.
• Acts as back-up to other Production Supervisors, as needed.
• Performs other duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees with assistance from Human Resources Department; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years related experience. Prior Supervisory experience is needed which includes strong leadership skills. Knowledge of USDA, HACCP, SSOP's and GMP's is desired.
