The Flagger/Fire Watch/Confined Space Attendant monitors and protects other personnel performing work in high-risk environments. The attendant must be aware of all hazards in the space and surrounding area. This person is required to work in an industrial facility on construction jobsite setting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The job will primarily be on or around construction/turnaround sites in petrochemical operational units and include possible hazardous environments such as confined spaces and working at heights. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, irritants and smoke may occur. Special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be necessary to control some hazardous environments. Additional forms of PPE may be required depending on the particular project. Safety requirements must be verified and meet standards set forth by client permits, policies and procedures, and be performed in compliance with all federal, state and local laws or ordinances before work activities can begin.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiates JSA's and obtains, reads, understands, and enforces safe work permits, hot work permits and confined space entry permits.
- Responsible for monitoring activities inside and outside of a confined space.
- Directs traffic around construction sites using hand signals and traffic control devices (flags, whistles, air horns) ensuring the safety of both workers and motorists by managing the flow of vehicles through designated work zones, often by placing warning signs, cones, and barricades, and communicating with construction crews about potential traffic hazards.
- Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work related tools and equipment. - Must be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs., but may occasionally push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100 lbs.
- Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legs
- Hand/eye coordination
- Must be able to communicate (hear, comprehend, and speak) to safely perform work
- Will need to be able to perform sedentary to heavy work
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
- Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing /pulling, or standing and lifting
- Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
- Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, Etc.)
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision
- Reading and writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy
- Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions
- Decision making skills necessary
- Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details
