Job Summary:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating industrial forklifts and reach lifts to perform various material handling tasks, ensuring safe and efficient transport of materials, equipment, and supplies. This role involves following production schedules and shipping orders, securing loads, and maintaining equipment. The Forklift Operator must adhere to safety protocols and assist with other tasks as needed to support warehouse and production operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts and reach lifts to transport materials to and from machines, loading docks, trucks, railroad cars, and storage areas.
- Apply knowledge of machine loading capacities and schedules to ensure timely and efficient material handling.
- Retrieve and follow production schedules or shipping orders, ensuring accurate identification and delivery of raw materials, equipment, or supplies.
- Use protective materials and strapping equipment to secure loads during transport; remove wrapping and dispose of waste safely after delivery.
- Perform safety inspections and regular maintenance checks on forklifts and reach lifts.
- Operate the reach lift to retrieve and place materials at high storage levels safely and efficiently.
- Report any issues related to materials, equipment, or transport to the supervisor promptly.
- Perform basic servicing of equipment and report mechanical or electrical issues to the truck mechanic.
- Manage and organize drums, pallets, skids, and other supplies in designated storage areas.
- Assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Basic math, language, and reading skills (equivalent to 9th-grade level).·
- Strong understanding of forklift and reach lift operations, including safety protocols.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to handle equipment safely and responsibly.
Education and Experience:
- Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license required.·
- Experience with reach lift operations preferred.
- Successful completion of forklift training or demonstrated proficiency through an on-site forklift test.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to maintain focus and situational awareness for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds, including wooden skids and pallets.
- Capable of working in various physical positions, including sitting, standing, and operating machinery at different heights.
- Comfortable working in indoor and outdoor environments, potentially exposed to varying temperatures and conditions.
