Job Summary
Standard Forwarding Freight is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee all aspects of payroll operations for our organization, supporting both Union and non-Union employees. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while adhering to federal, state, and local tax regulations as well as labor and HR laws. The ideal candidate will bring extensive payroll expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation, processing, and administration of weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for Union and non-Union employees.
- Ensure payroll is processed in a timely and accurate manner, including adjustments for overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, tax, and labor laws.
- Handle payroll-related audits and ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements for Union employees.
- Manage payroll systems and software, ensuring data integrity and seamless operation.
- Collaborate with HR and Technology teams to implement payroll system improvements, upgrades and troubleshooting issues.
- Reconcile payroll tax filings and ensure accurate calculation of federal, state, and local taxes.
- Manage deductions, such as garnishments, benefits, and retirement contributions.
- Prepare regular and ad-hoc payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Lead and mentor payroll staff, fostering a high-performing and compliant team.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and Legal teams to address payroll-related inquiries and initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of payroll management experience, including handling Union and non-Union payrolls.
- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and tax filings.
- Expertise in payroll software systems (e.g., ADP, UKG).
- Strong understanding of HR compliance and benefits administration.
- Exceptional organizational skills with acute attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification.
- Experience with multi-state payroll and tax filings.
- Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and Union payroll requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience in transportation/LTL industry.
