Position Overview
A Fabricator at Standard Glass Company of Wilmington is responsible for crafting, shaping, and finishing glass products according to design specifications and customer requirements. This role involves operating specialized tools and machinery to cut, polish, and assemble glass for various applications, such as windows, doors, or decorative pieces. Attention to detail, precision, and adherence to safety standards are critical for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication and Production
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, or specifications to determine the required glass dimensions and designs.
- Operate machinery such as glass cutters, grinders, polishers, and drilling equipment.
- Perform cutting, edging, beveling, and tempering processes on glass materials.
- Assemble glass components for finished products, such as insulated glass units or custom glass structures.
Quality Control
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Identify and resolve issues such as scratches, chips, or improper dimensions.
- Maintain consistency and precision throughout the fabrication process.
Material Handling
- Safely load, move, and position glass materials using hoists, cranes, or suction lifters.
- Store glass products properly to prevent breakage or contamination.
- Track inventory of glass materials and report shortages to management.
Maintenance and Safety
- Regularly inspect and maintain fabrication tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace to minimize hazards.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Work closely with design teams, project managers, and other fabricators to meet production goals.
- Communicate any delays, equipment issues, or material shortages to supervisors.
- Document fabrication processes and maintain accurate records of completed jobs.
