Position: Technician Reports To: Data Clerk(North) Lead Technician(NARM)
1.0 Description: Prepare and analyze samples in accordance with established procedures for which task training has been completed.
2.0 Responsibilities:
2.1 Adheres to the SL Employee Handbook, Code of Ethics, and Confidentiality Agreement, esp. in regards to impartiality and confidentiality.
2.2 Willing to follow 12hr. rotating shift schedule, including holidays and weekends.
2.3 Perform overtime as required, sometimes with little notice.
2.4 Be punctual and maintain an acceptable attendance record, keeping in mind that late arrival or failure to arrive for a shift creates hardship for other employees and jeopardizes the ability of Standard Laboratories to meet its responsibilities.
2.5 Schedule routine appointments for days that do not conflict with regular scheduled work days.
2.6 Schedule vacation time with approval of laboratory manager at least one month in advance.
2.7 Give at least 36 hour notice when unable to cover a regular scheduled shift, unless an emergency.
2.8 Document availability on the “on-call” sheet each work week.
2.9 Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
2.10 Finish up any work remaining from previous shift.
2.11 Receive and log-in samples for analysis.
2.12 Maintain accurate COCs for all samples received.
2.13 Sample Prep--Prepare (reduce and divide) samples for analysis following established work instructions.
2.14 Analyze samples for total moisture content, total ash content, calorific value, sulfur content, volatile matter
(North), and mineral analysis of ash in accordance with established work instructions.
2.15 Perform calibration and quality control procedures.
2.16 Record data on prescribed worksheets.
2.17 Follow required turnaround times for sample results (2-hr for Quicks; 48-hr for Finals)
2.18 Enter raw data into LabPro, review data entered, and review calculated results.
2.19 Report quick results. Validate and send COAs. Send pdf to DL. Check sample results in SAP.
2.20 Responsible for a shift risk assessment and report safety concerns to the manager.
2.21 Cleaning and any other tasks as described on cleaning list.
2.22 NORTH: Complete items on Shift Checklist LD-F-91-021.
2.23 Understanding that there is potential for advancement within the company, depending on work performance.
3.0 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
3.1 Current MSHA Part 48B Training
3.2 Maintain and wear proper PPE as needed.
3.3 Site Hazard & Online Contractor Training for Peabody.
3.4 SL Ethics Policy, Safety Program, GHS, Fleet Safety Program, and Loss Control Program Training.
3.5 Task Training in designated laboratory procedures.
3.6 Basic computer skills, e.g. typing, emailing, attaching files, saving, printing, LabPro, Balance Collector.
3.7 Maintain professional relationships with all colleagues and mine personnel.
4.0 Physical Demands:
4.1 Stationary (sitting or standing): Up to 6-hr per shift, intermittently
4.2 Traverse (walking): Up to 10-hr per shift, intermittently
4.3 Transport: Heavy Objects: No more than 50-lbs. by yourself, intermittently during shift
Light Objects: Consistently
4.4 Ability to pass post-offer / fit for duty testing.
4.5 Exposure: PPE will be assigned as exposure to dust and noise is common, exposure to some chemicals
4.6 Operate: Machinery Included: High Temperature Ovens/Furnaces, Calorimeters, XRF Analyzers, Computers,
Crushers, Pulverizers, Balances, TGAs, Company vehicles, Printers/Copiers/Fax Machines, etc.
