Public Works is looking to fill multiple full-time positions in our Road Maintenance Series
THE POSITION
ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER I
The Road Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class in the Road Maintenance Worker series, learning work methods and techniquescom).
ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER II
- One (1) year full-time work experience as a maintenance or construction laborer or truck driver which includes work of the type done in Public Works related agencies; AND
- Possess and maintain a valid California Class A driver’s license; AND
- Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license; AND
- Obtain necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California, to perform the essential job functions of the position within one (1) year of date of appointment; AND
- Proficiently operate Class A vehicles.
ROAD MAINTENANCE WORKER III
- Three (3) years of full-time experience as a Road Maintenance Worker II with Stanislaus County or equivalent; AND
- Proficiently operate the following equipment: aerial tower, back hoe, CNG roll-off truck and striper truck, grader, grinder, paver, spray truck operator, tanker, transports and vactor, within 12 months of appointment; AND
- Possess and maintain a valid California Class A Commercial Vehicle Drivers License; AND
- Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license; AND
- Endorsements needed to operate all Road Division equipment, including but not limited to, doubles/triples, and tank. Additionally, operators transporting more than ten people must have the proper endorsement.
Failure to maintain the above requirements and to successfully pass regular County-paid Department of Motor Vehicle required physicals could result in release from employment.
Application and Selection Procedures
EXAMINATION PROCESS
Most County recruitments consists of the steps detailed below and are governed by Merit Principles. The examination process ensures that all applicants are given the same opportunity to gain employment within Stanislaus County.
- Application Review and Screening. Applications are carefully screened based on information provided. Those who submit incomplete applications that lack relevant qualifications or do not submit all required documents will not be invited to move on.
- Written Examination. Applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that tests knowledge for the position.
- Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
- Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months, but may be extended up to eighteen months.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Final appointment will be conditional upon successfully passing a County paid pre-employment drug screening (if applicable for position) and a job-related background investigation.
Some positions may require possession or the ability to obtain, and maintenance of a valid California Driver’s license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related essential functions.
