Position Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineer at Lumen Orbit, you will be at the heart of designing, developing, and testing cutting-edge hardware for our space-based data centers. You will own the full lifecycle of mechanical systems, from concept to orbital operation, working closely with senior leadership and multidisciplinary teams to deliver groundbreaking solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Development:
- Spearhead the development of primary and secondary structures for our spacecraft, from concept design to production.
- Create and manage detailed CAD models from component to spacecraft level.
- Perform structural and thermal analysis using FEA and classical methods to ensure our hardware performs during launch and in-orbit operations.
- Project Management:
- Own the lifecycle of mechanical components, driving projects from initial concept through to manufacturing, testing, and deployment.
- Collaborate on system-level requirements and design criteria to develop holistic DFM strategies that optimize for manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
- Ensure timely project delivery with high standards of quality and performance through pragmatic project management.
- Testing and Validation:
- Design and execute comprehensive test plans to validate designs under extreme conditions.
- Perform rigorous environmental and performance testing to demonstrate compliance with requirements.
- Production and Integration:
- Partner with supply chain and manufacturing teams to establish efficient, space-qualified production processes.
- Optimize designs for ease of integration and production.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure the flawless delivery and integration of mechanical components.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency with advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX).
- Experience with FEA software for high-fidelity structural analysis.
- Minimum of 1 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding and application of GD&T principles.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 3 years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis in the space sector
- Expertise in materials selection, advanced manufacturing methods, and surface treatments for space applications.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation and data analysis.
- Experience with PCB design and PCBA mechanical integration.
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
Lumen Orbit offers an attractive salary and benefits package, including:
- Mechanical Engineer/Level I: $100,000 - $115,000 per year
- Mechanical Engineer/Level II: $110,000 - $130,000 per year
- Potential for stock options, discretionary bonuses, and other long-term incentives.
