What are the responsibilities and job description for the Truck Trailer/Mill Maintenance position at Star of the West Milling Co.?
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Inspection & Diagnostics: Conduct thorough inspections of trucks and trailers to identify mechanical, electrical and pneumatic system issues. Communicate findings to Maintenance Superintendent/Plant Manager and implement a plan of corrective action to resolve issues.
- Repairs & Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of pneumatic systems, bulk loading mechanisms and other components of truck and trailer systems.
- Engine & Transmission Work: Capable of minor engine and transmission repairs, ensuring trucks are in top operating condition for the transportation of flour and other raw materials
- Electrical Systems: Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including lighting, batteries and wiring
- Pneumatic Systems: Maintain and repair air brake systems, compressors, valves and other pneumatic components that are essential for bulk loading and unloading operations.
- Bulk Conveying Equipment: Inspect, maintain and repair bulk loading/unloading systems such as blowers and hoppers used in transporting bulk materials.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on trucks, trailers and pneumatic systems to reduce downtime and increase operational efficiency.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance and repair work is complaint with safety standards, industry and federal regulations.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, parts used and labor hours for each job. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory documentation.
- Coverage: Covering for delivery drivers may be required when short staffed.
- Responsibility to report any issues involving food safety and sanitation
- Actively participate in workplace safety and food safety training
- Responsibility to comply with all food safety and workplace safety policies
Minimum Requirements

- High school diploma, preferred
- At least 2 years experience working as a mechanic on trucks and trailers, with a focus on bulk loading systems, pneumatics and related mechanical components
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is required
- Strong understanding of truck and trailer mechanical systems, pneumatic systems (including air brakes) and bulk loading/unloading equipment
- Certification in truck/trailer mechanics preferred
- Airbrake certification or able to become certified
- Basic welding/grinding skills
- Proficient with diagnostic tools and equipment for pneumatic and mechanical repairs
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical manuals and electrical diagrams
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Wear required PPE provided by company
Physical Demands
Physically be able to perform all requirements including but not limited to:
- Use hands to manipulate tools and parts while in various positions
- Comfortable with bending, kneeling and working in confined spaces
- Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend and crawl throughout your shift
- Ability to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment up to 100 pounds
- Vision requirements include corrected vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Experience
