Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Process Engineer – PCBA at Star Precision in Houston, TX. The Process Engineer will be responsible for process design, process control, analytical problem-solving, and continuous improvement in PCBA processes. The successful candidate will work on optimizing assembly workflows, ensuring product quality, and collaborating with cross-functional teams on the entire PCBA lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize PCBA manufacturing processes and documentation (e.g., work instructions) for surface mount technology (SMT), through-hole assembly, solder reflow, wave soldering, and inspection protocols.
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot machine programs for all stages of the PCBA manufacturing process (e.g., pick-and-place, soldering, reflow, AOI) to ensure efficient, high-quality production and continuous improvement across multiple product lines.
- Establish and monitor process controls to ensure consistent quality and compliance with industry standards (IPC-A-600, 610, 620, and JSTD-001).
- Analyze and resolve technical issues in collaboration with quality, production, and engineering teams, utilizing the CAPA process.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve yields.
- Provide technical guidance to manufacturing personnel and participate in training to ensure best practices are followed.
- Utilize analytical methods (e.g., SPC) to monitor and improve process capabilities.
- Collaborate with suppliers and customers to ensure that all PCBA project requirements are met.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Preferred)
- 5 years’ experience as a manufacturing process engineer, preferably in a PCBA manufacturing or electronics assembly environment
- Knowledge of process design and process control principles for electronic assemblies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to drive cross-functional solutions
- Familiarity with chemical engineering aspects of PCBA (e.g., cleaning chemistry, flux selection, solder paste management) is a plus
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly
- Experience in surface mount technology (SMT), pick-and-place equipment, selective/reflow soldering, automated x-ray inspection (AXI) or Solder Paste inspection/automated optical inspection (SPI/AOI) processes is highly desirable
