Company Description
Star Rock Farms is a 4th Generation Crop and Livestock Production business. We currently have 7 entities with emphasis on dairy, cattle, hogs, crops, sod, and real estate. The 3rd and 4th generation are currently part of the ownership team. We operate in several Pennsylvania counties, two Maryland Counties and beginning on 1 / 1 / 25 we will have operations in several Virginia Counties.
Role Description
The Chief Financial Officer’s primary role is to oversee financial management and maximize the performance of all entities owned by the Barley Family by ensuring accurate, timely, and current financial information is available to company leadership. Additionally, the CFO is responsible for analyzing potential new profit avenues, determining viability, and financial risk. This includes managing relationships with lenders and preparing analyses for all financial decisions. CFO will report to the representative selected by the ownership team.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
Oversee financial system (FBS Systems)
Manages and directs the Office Manager and Controller
Oversee and manages bank and accountant relations and communication
Prepares and tracks the yearly budget
Other Duties :
Oversee, analyze and distribute monthly and quarterly financial statements for all entities including consolidated reports for the board and key leaders.
Prepare yearly budgets for all entities and distribute to board for approval
Analyze viability of large investments – i.e., land, equipment, farms, infrastructure, etc.
Analyze new business ventures
Evaluate loans
Oversee accurate cost of production calculations
Provide profit analysis upon request
Stay current on government programs, reimbursements, coverages, etc.
Analyze crop insurance year-to-year
Provide year-end financial reports
Oversee the organization's financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding to accomplish the mission and goals of the company
Provide status updates on marketing and sales
Ensure business is functioning under a proper debt coverage ratio
Prepare and analyze short term and long-term capital expenditure budget
Qualifications
Proven experience as a CFO, finance officer, or relevant role
Strong knowledge of financial planning, reporting, and analysis
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strategic thinking and decision-making abilities
CPA Certification or master’s degree in accounting
Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance
Experience in financial management software
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Commitment to ethical behavior and integrity
Fluent in Microsoft Excel and Word
Preferred but not required to have agricultural experience
