Position Summary:
This Sales Engineer requires extensive knowledge of STAR products and services to ensure customers' needs are met. Regular and frequent travel, approximately 25%, will be required to installation sites to gain knowledge of OEM. The primary technical resource for the field sales force, this role involves actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. Working in conjunction with the sales team, the technical advisor and product advocate will articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. Identifying all technical issues of assigned accounts is crucial to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. Establishing and maintaining strong relationships throughout the sales cycle is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Functional
- Be the liaison between customers and engineering
- Travel to support ongoing jobs
- Manage and interpret Customer’s needs and provide solutions on an on-call basis
- Persuade Customer that a product or service will best satisfy their needs
- Calculate Customer quotations when needed
- Offer after-sales support services
- Administrating Customer accounts
- Prepare reports for sales follow-up
- Meet sales targets and goals
- Coordinate sales projects
- Perform technical presentations while communicating with the Customer
- Provide pre-sales technical assistance and product education to Customers
- Solve Customer issues
- Provide training and produce support material for the sales team
Leadership
- Accountable for results realizing a sense of urgency around business imperatives and convincing others of that urgency.
- Practices effective continuous process improvement techniques by eliminating non-value-added activities
- Stays focused on work activities and works through distractions.
- Actively participates in performance feedback and coaching processes.
- Routine duties are performed with minimal supervision and standard practices or procedures are followed to proceed alone at routine work; occasional check of work while in progress; work is reviewed upon completion.

- Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws
Educational Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering, is required. A master’s degree is considered favorable.
Experience Requirements
- Experience in the gas and/or steam turbine or electric utility industry preferred
- Five or more years of experience in general management or high-level sales management role in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
- High business acumen with a fundamental understanding of how to successfully lead and grow a manufacturing business is required.
- Experience working with private equity investors and M&A or post-merger integration desired.
- Track record of creating positive, inclusive, and engaging company cultures
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and manipulate 25lbs on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently bend, stoop.
