Assistant Band Director Job Description
The goal of the SVHS Marching Band is to provide students an opportunity to develop confidence, musical and team skills in a safe and competitive setting. With that in mind, the following are duties required of the assistant director.
- Maintain vigilant supervision of students during practice, competition and travel
- Follow all district and school rules and guidelines for student’s safety and successful participation as outlined in the SVHS Coaches Handbook
- Effectively communicate the expectations and rules for participation with students and parents and communicate with the band director when discipline needs to be enforced
- Stay current on band specific skills, maneuvering techniques and reinforce those in practice
- Attend after school practices to teach and instruct students in preparation for tournament participation
- Assist music rehearsals/sectionals for: Wind Instruments, Pit Percussion/Drumline, Color Guard
- Assist in assignments, inventory, maintenance and minor repair of uniforms and instruments
- Assist in the show planning, design performance logistics
- Travel to all competitions/performances and provide support to students and band director
- Assist band director, following district guidelines, in keep financial records and receipts as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
