(Because of the population served, disabilities include neurological disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, cognitive or learning disabilities, and/or recovery from substance abuse.) Help clients explore options given their available resources and formulate problem-solving plans. Research and offer resources that are relevant to the client’s treatment goals and planning; connecting them directly to services being the main priority; including but not limited to placement in higher-level of care facilities. Serve as informal advocates, offering clients the opportunity to discuss issues surrounding relationships, feelings, attitudes, personal goals, and individual rights. Using the Recovery Model outlined in the MHSA (Mental Health Services Act), the goal of the Peer and Family Advocate is to empower consumers in creating a hopeful future where they can experience the possibilities of getting a job, earning a diploma, and having an apartment of their own. The Peer and Family Advocate will support clients in moving toward recovery. This position may also assist with transportation for the client(s) as required and/or be asked to escort clients to off-site facilities (i.e. medical) and remain and supervise said, clients.
