POSITION SUMMARY:
The Early Childhood Outpatient Therapist provides direct clinical and therapeutic services to young children and their families at Starfish Family Services.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in psychology, social work or counseling field required.
- Current valid professional license/certification in the State of Michigan. Full license preferred.
- A minimum of two years previous experience required.
- Level II Endorsement through the Michigan Association of Infant Mental Health required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual and family treatment to assigned clients (including co-occurring clients with SUD or IDD diagnoses).
- Maintain clinical charts in an accurate and timely manner to include, but not limited to assessments, treatment plans, and all other DWIHN and contractual chart requirements.
- Actively coordinate all therapy with appropriate agency personnel.
- Update appropriate agency personnel regarding progress of therapy.
- Participate in individual and group supervision along with mandatory agency meetings and trainings.
- Maintain a caseload size and weekly productivity expectations as determined by supervisor.
- Make intra-agency referrals for evaluations, consultation, and other services, e.g. parent education.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with educational, legal, health, social welfare, and mental health systems.
- Participate in professional development activities, including in-service training, peer review, external workshops, and seminars, etc.
- Cooperate in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation or other circumstances.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Comprehensive assessment skills.
- Direct clinical experience performing relationship-based therapy along with the empathy and compassion necessary to facilitate positive growth.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the psychological and physical effects out of home placement has on children and their families. Demonstrated knowledge of young child, adolescent and/or adult conscious and unconscious psychodynamics, developmental stages and signs of conflict or distress.
- Good understanding of child development, parent-child dynamics, common childhood behavior concerns and appropriate interventions.
- Ability to teach, discuss, and model behavioral interventions for children.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed (i.e., some evenings or weekend work is required).
- Willingness to provide group interventions.
- Ability to demonstrate commitment, caring, and respect for children and adults from diverse backgrounds who have multiple needs or concerns.
- Development and implementation of Individualized Plan of Service or treatment plan utilizing Person Centered Planning.
- Knowledge of theory and practice of individual, group and family systems treatment.
- Competency in the delivery of crisis intervention services.
- Competency, or willingness to learn, a wide range of treatment modalities that are individualized and person centered.
- Competency, or willingness to learn, co-occurring treatment of mental health, substance abuse and/or developmental disabilities.
LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a current valid State of Michigan chauffeur’s driver’s license and automobile insurance that is insurable. Must meet SFS and our insurance carrier guidelines for the transportation of children/ clients.
