XenoSTART, the preclinical division of START is a translational research organization focused on creating relevant preclinical cancer models. Our xenograft models represent each cancer type and disease stage and are established from patients at our domestic and international cancer centers. The XenoSTART Patient-Derived Xenograft (XPDX) platform includes over 2,500 models annotated with each donor patient’s cancer treatment and outcome data and characterized using IHC, DNA/RNA sequencing, and relevant in vivo drug efficacy.

Our XPDX models are clinically annotated and include patient treatment history and outcome and are characterized through genomic profiling, histologic analysis, and in vivo drug sensitivity to relevant standards of care. These models may be utilized in the following manner:
  • In vivo PK/PD and efficacy studies
  • In vivo efficacy panel screens (indication or target focused)
  • In licensing of models for internal studies
  • Custom model development
  • Orthotopic and radiotherapy studies
  • Ex vivo and organoid studies

We are hiring a Manager, Finance Partner for Xenostart who will oversee all financial aspects of the business, including accounting, financial planning & analysis, and operational finance functions such as accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP). As a key business partner to the CFO and General Manager, this role will provide strategic financial insights and operational support to drive the growth and profitability of the division. The ideal candidate is a proactive and analytical leader with strong technical finance skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for supporting groundbreaking cancer research. This role is an amazing development opportunity for a Finance professional early in career who is interested in development track toward CFO.

This is a remote role. The annual base salary for this role is $115,000 - $125,000 Bonus. However, base pay may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Essential Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Planning
  • Partner with the General Manager of Xenostart to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with divisional and corporate goals.
  • Collaborate with Xenostart leadership team and corporate Finance teams to create budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans for the division.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.
Accounting and Compliance
  • Oversee all accounting operations for Xenostart, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, GAAP, and applicable regulations.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including accurate and timely reporting of financial results.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place and identify opportunities to streamline financial processes.
Operational Finance (AR/AP)
  • Supervise accounts receivable and accounts payable functions for the division, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.
  • Partner with operations teams to optimize working capital and ensure proper cash flow management.
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure accurate client billing and timely collection of receivables.
Business Partnering and Reporting
  • Act as the primary Finance liaison between Xenostart and corporate Finance teams, ensuring alignment and collaboration.
  • Prepare and deliver financial reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), and presentations to senior management.
  • Support strategic initiatives such as pricing models, cost analysis, and investment planning.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven experience partnering with operational leaders to drive financial performance.
  • Strong financial, analytical and negotiation skills and a resourceful approach to problem-solving.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and decision-making
  • Experience with financial compliance issues of clinical research and the communication of standard operating procedures and compliance policies
  • Advanced Excel experience
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Great Plains and Netsuite accounting software experience
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and financial modeling.
  • Experience managing AR/AP and operational finance processes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams and levels of an organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., ERP systems, Excel).
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years relevant experience inclusive of managerial/leadership experience
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Required to travel up to 10% of the time
