What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing Communications Intern position at Startup Waco?
Join Our Team as a Marketing & Communications Intern!
Are you a creative thinker with a passion for storytelling, community building, and all things entrepreneurship? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
Who We Are:
Startup Waco exists to support entrepreneurs in Central Texas, whether they’re just getting started or scaling up. We’re a nonprofit that’s all about breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and making Waco a thriving hub for innovation. We do this by hosting a buzzing coworking space in downtown Waco and offering programs designed to boost local businesses.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Marketing & Communications Intern who’s excited to get hands-on experience in social media, content creation, email marketing, and graphic design. You’ll also be our go-to person at our second coworking location, the BRIC, helping members with anything from WiFi to printing while keeping the vibes positive and productive. This role is in-person at the BRIC (Baylor Research & Innovation Collaborative) Building, so you’ll be right at the heart of our community!
What You’ll Do:
Marketing & Communications (Your Main Gig)
- Social Media Magic: Create, schedule, and monitor content that gets people talking. We want you to bring fresh ideas to our platforms!
- Content Creation: Write and design engaging social media posts, email newsletters, and other creative stuff (think Canva and Adobe Express).
- Email Marketing: Help draft and send out newsletters that keep our community in the loop on all things Startup Waco.
- Research & Strategy: Dive into trending topics, new grant opportunities, and cool ideas to help us stay ahead of the game.
Coworking Community Support (Your Side Quest)
- Membership Help: Be the friendly face that helps coworking members with space questions (like WiFi, printing, and amenities).
- Community Building: Team up with our Membership and Events Manager to create a welcoming vibe through events and day-to-day interactions.
What We’re Looking For:
- You’re working toward (or just finished) a bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, PR, Journalism, or something similar.
- You’ve got a way with words and know how to make content pop.
- Social media skills? Check. Canva magic? Double check.
- You’re organized, motivated, and can handle a mix of tasks without breaking a sweat.
- You’re a people person who’s pumped to build community and make connections.
- Most importantly, you care about small businesses and want to be part of a team that supports entrepreneurs.
Perks:
- Real-world experience in a fun, dynamic startup environment.
- A chance to build your portfolio and gain skills you’ll actually use.
- Paid internship (15-20 hours a week).
Sound like your kind of gig? Drop us your resume, a brief intro, and a sample of your work (if you’ve got one). We can’t wait to meet you!
