Office of Children's Services (OCS) is
recruiting for full-time Accounting Technician 1 located in
Juneau, Alaska.


What You Will Be Doing
This position provides day to day support/assistance in keeping a wide range of providers/vendors paid in a timely and accurate manner. Those vendors include other government agencies, childcare providers, educational institutions, medical vendors, transportation agencies, Independent Living Youth, as well as multiple vendors supplying commodities to our resource families. This position is part of a team of staff providing excellent customer service to our frontline workers and care providers, tasked with answering questions and providing guidance to ensure payments are made in a timely and accurate manner.

Support and training will be provided by supervisors and experienced teammates as you learn basic processes of responding to provider and payment inquiries, vendor setup, reviewing submitted invoices and processing payments, file documentation, and other duties as assigned. Willingness to learn and previous experience utilizing concepts of basic financial transactions, documentation review, and verbal and written communication is desired. Understanding of the Office of Children's Services Vendor & Provider Payments Unit processes of responding to provider and payment inquiries, assisting in vendor setup, reviewing submitted documents and invoices, engaging in scheduled weekly certification tasks, processing special payments, and other duties as assigned.

The Provider Payments Unit is located on the 4th floor of the Goldstein Building located in beautiful downtown Juneau, Alaska. We are surrounded by fantastic window views of the mountains and have access to a variety of local stores, restaurants, and the Gastineau Channel Boardwalk.

One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Substitutions:
Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

At time of interview applicant is requested to submit:

  • A list of three (3) professional* references including daytime telephone numbers and email address; at least two (2) of these must be from a current or former supervisor.
    • Professional is defined as a supervisor or an individual who has direct knowledge of your work performance.
