The salary of each location is broken down below.Anchorage: $3,432.00 Biweekly / Juneau: $3,604.00 BiweeklyWHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGAs the Budget Analyst for the Department of Public Safety (DPS), you will oversee the preparation, submission, and management of the department’s operating and capital budgets. You will monitor appropriations, provide financial projections, and develop solutions to address funding needs, ensuring compliance with state and federal policies. This role includes supervising budget staff, managing cost allocation plans, and coordinating with OMB and Legislative Finance to support the department's fiscal goals. Additionally, you will collaborate with leadership to prepare fiscal notes, oversee grant funding, and support legislative activities critical to public safety operations.OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE: DPS is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of Alaskans through law enforcement, emergency response, and public safety programs. Tudor Road, offering flexibility in location. The daily work environment is primarily office-based, with a focus on financial analysis, collaboration with team members, and coordination across divisions; occasional travel may be required.WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Budget Administration: Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis; including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.Financial Management: Prepares, justifies, and/or administers the budget for program areas; plans, administers, and monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies; assesses the financial condition of an organization.Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.The Department of Public Safety strives to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
One year of full-working professional level experience analyzing and reviewing budgetary data and information; preparing analysis, reports, and recommendations on budgetary information; and utilizing electronic information management systems. This is met by service as a Budget Analyst 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.ORTwo years of full-working level professional experience in accounting or auditing; financial management, budget analysis, management, or projection/forecasting, budget legislation or policy analysis; economic or management analysis and projection; or conducting research, analysis, and interpretation of economic, budgetary, and fiscal information and making presentations and recommendations on results to management.ORTwo years of experience as a business executive or manager establishing and implementing policies, goals, objectives, and procedures; conferring with board members, organization officials, and staff members; directing and coordinating an organization's activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency; and reviewing reports such as financial statements, sales and activity reports; and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.
