Job Description

The Anchorage Probate / Children's Division of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is looking for a detail-oriented individual to become a Court Case Manager 2 (salary range 12). The incumbent will review documents to determine their compliance with applicable court rules, statutes, and local procedures.

Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for an advance step placement.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Accept petitions for filing and open cases; assign judges / magistrates for new cases; accept filing fees as required and prepare receipts for same; open case in computer system;
  • Issue summons and subpoenas as required; prepare Guardian ad Litem assignments as required; take necessary calendaring action and route cases to the magistrate;
  • Process documents filed with the court and determine what action is required;
  • Receive case files as they are returned from chambers or other offices; review new paperwork and orders to determine necessary action;
  • Process and distribute orders and judgments to parties and agencies;
  • Perform data entry of new documents and events as required in the case management system and in motion tracking.

You will have shared responsibility for processing Probate, CINA, and delinquency case files. These include processing documents which require court action such as motions, stipulations, opposition and reply memoranda while determining if documents are properly filed in accordance with technical provisions of statutes and court rules; ensuring motions are accompanied by supporting documents, and that all documents are signed and affidavits are notarized. The incumbent will notify counsel, agencies, or pro se litigants in a timely manner of any deficiencies discovered, citing the appropriate rule or statute.

The Environment Located in the Nesbett Courthouse, the Probate / Children's Division is made up of ten Court Case Managers 2, and three Courtroom Judicial Assistants under the supervision of the Court Supervisor 4.

The Work Hours Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

    Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
