The Ketchikan Trial Court is accepting applications for a detail-oriented and organized Court Case Manager 2 (salary range 12)! The successful applicant will process jury and civil paperwork, and assist counter and telephone customers.

CIVIL CLERK

  • Open, monitor, and close all civil cases; review filings for compliance with rules; monitor in-basket and OnBase daily and process all paperwork in a timely manner; prepare and process all judicial assignments.
  • Schedule hearing and trial dates for civil cases, including preparing and distributing trial notices; check new case filings and the court calendar daily to ensure that all files seen in court are complete.
  • Monitor tickler and motion pull reports daily; distribute judgments and orders to all parties; process entries for default and default judgments; close cases in CourtView and the case file.
  • Process and issue writs of execution.


JURY CLERK

  • Maintain master jury lists.
  • Screen jurors through questionnaires used for qualification purposes.
  • Monitor jury attendance, excusals, and deferments.
  • Maintain jury room and prepare juror pay cards.
  • Answer complex or complicated questions about jury service received by mail, telephone, in person or as referred by other clerks or judicial officers.


CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Share counter duties with Probate and Criminal clerks and respond to a variety of questions from the public, other court staff, and other agencies without giving legal advice.
  • Answer phones and direct calls.
  • Receipt in money for payment of bail, fines, surcharges, restitution, filing fees, etc.

The Work Hours

Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).


OR

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).


OR


A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

LETTER OF INTEREST

Your letter of interest should:
1) Be professionally written and include proper format, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
2) Explain how you meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

The letter will be used to help determine which applicants will advance to the interview phase of the recruitment and selection process.

KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your typing speed of 40 wpm or higher (net). Online keyboarding tests (often at no cost) are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document. Acceptable websites include: www.ratatype.com and www.typingtest.com.

In addition, keyboarding tests are given at any Alaska Job Center location. A list of locations is available at: http://www.jobs.state.ak.us/offices.

WORK HISTORY
If using work experience not already documented in your application, provide the employer’s name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. Applications will be reviewed to determine if the responses are supported and Minimum Qualifications are clearly met. If they are not, the applicant will not advance to the interview and selection phase of the recruitment.

EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications, you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts will be required at time of interview.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately, we cannot always interview all applicants. If your application is considered "not qualified," you will be sent a notice within two weeks after the closing date for this recruitment. If you believe your application was improperly disqualified, you may appeal this decision to the Human Resources Director at 820 West 4th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501-2005 within five workdays from the date the notice is mailed to you. Qualified applications will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
