The Juneau Trial Court is accepting applications for a Court Supervisor 2 (salary range 13).  A primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the supervision of staff and operations in the division. 


  
Personnel rules will be applied to determine step placement for the successful internal candidate.
  
    
Regular job responsibilities:

  • Assist in performing all aspects of supervision including interviewing, hiring, training, disciplining, and preparing performance evaluations;    
  • Plan, assign and review work of In-Court clerks.  Prepare interim and annual performance evaluations in advance of the due date;
  • Monitor workflow and work allocation and be responsible for overall productivity of the in-court department; ensure accurate and timely processing of case files in compliance with court rules, statutes, policies and procedures;
  • Troubleshoot and monitor electronic recording equipment to ensure that an accurate, clear and audible recordings are made. Recognize damaged or malfunctioning equipment and take appropriate action to correct if possible;
  • Schedule hearings and trial dates for cases with the district and superior court judicial assistants; prepare and distribute trial notices; obtain and read court tag reports following court trials for further processing;
  • Perform the job duties of In-Court clerks as necessary to maintain workflow during absences or under other circumstances;
  • Evaluate and monitor compliance with established policies and procedures. Recommend to Clerk of Court and implement approved changes in work procedures. Develop new policies and procedures to meet the changing needs of the court;
  • Maintain storage of trial exhibits and keep a log of exhibits. Complete paperwork to release exhibits promptly to parties and destroy exhibits once approved by following all exhibit procedures per the administrative bulletin. Assists in organizing court records, assisting with the destruction of records, annual file review, and shipping records to Anchorage.

Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND two years of office clerical work experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

Substitutions:

Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a year-for-year basis.

Completion of 72 semester credit hours or 96 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the two years of required office clerical work experience.

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical work experience on a month-for-month basis.

KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your keyboarding speed of 40 wpm or higher (net). Online keyboarding tests (often at no cost) are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document.  Acceptable websites include: www.ratatype.com and www.typingtest.com.
       
In addition, keyboarding tests are given at any Alaska Job Center location. A list of locations is available at: http://www.jobs.state.ak.us/offices.  
       
WORK HISTORY
If using work experience not already documented in your application, provide the employer’s name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications, you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts will be required at time of interview.

Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately, we cannot always interview all applicants. If your application is considered "not qualified," you will be sent a notice within two weeks after the closing date for this recruitment. If you believe your application was improperly disqualified, you may appeal this decision to the Human Resources Director at 820 West 4th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501-2005 within five workdays from the date the notice is mailed to you. Qualified applications will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
