The Nome Trial Court is looking for a dependable and detail-oriented individual to become a Court Case Manager 2 (salary range 12) in the Criminal Division. This position handles a variety of clerical and technical functions in support of court operations.    

The Position 

Criminal duties will include receiving a variety of court forms, verify completeness of filings, and accept fees as appropriate.  The incumbent will set up case files, enter computer data, and issue process in the form of summons, warrants, and orders to show cause. Additional duties include calendaring criminal hearings and jury trials as required, review audit reports, disbursing funds, and assisting other staff members with duties when needed. 

In-court duties will include preparing the courtroom for hearings, receive and mark exhibits, maintain witness lists, calendaring necessary hearings, and prepare and distribute court paperwork. The incumbent will be responsible for keeping accurate log notes and ensure a clear recording of the hearing is produced. This position is responsible for drawing juror/grand juror names, swearing in jurors, and maintaining good communication during trials with the jury clerk.

The Work Hours

Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.  

The Work Environment

The Nome Trial Court is located on 5th Avenue and provides easy access to stores or to enjoy a walk on your lunch break. When fully staffed, the clerk’s office includes four staff full-time staff and one part-time Court Case Managers 2 under the supervision of the Clerk of Court. As a Court Case Manager 2, you will become a part of the Nome Trial Court helping to fulfill the mission of the Alaska Court System.

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

 

OR

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

 

OR

 

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

LETTER OF INTEREST

KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Attach a recent keyboarding certification (dated within one year) to your application that verifies your keyboarding speed of 40 wpm or higher (net). Online keyboarding tests (often at no cost) are accepted with a valid website address noted on the document.  Acceptable websites include: www.ratatype.com and www.typingtest.com.

WORK HISTORY

If using work experience not already documented in your application, provide the employer’s name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full or part-time. Applications will be reviewed to determine if the responses are supported and Minimum Qualifications are clearly met. If they are not, the applicant will not advance to the interview and selection phase of the recruitment.   

EDUCATION

If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications, you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts will be required at time of interview.   

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately, we cannot always interview all applicants. If your application is considered "not qualified," you will be sent a notice within two weeks after the closing date for this recruitment. If you believe your application was improperly disqualified, you may appeal this decision to the Human Resources Director at 820 West 4th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501-2005 within five workdays from the date the notice is mailed to you. Qualified applications will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
