The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Alaska Air National Guard Facilities (ANG) is recruiting for an Engineering Assistant 2.
This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at a range 19.
This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What You Will Be Doing :
In this position, you will oversee construction project administration, engineering, and inspection for the Alaska Air National Guard (ANG) on federal installations, ensuring that projects are executed per established plans and specifications. Key responsibilities include applying accepted engineering management principles to the planning, programming, design, and maintenance of roadways, utilities, and buildings for the 176th Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). You will research project requirements, user needs, and applicable codes, manage design contracts, and prepare engineering documentation for various agencies. Your role will also involve producing both electronic and manual architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings, translating field notes and topographic data into AutoCAD format, and creating updated maps and renderings to support ongoing projects and master planning efforts for the 176th Civil Engineer Squadron.

- Technical Expertise : Identifying and selecting appropriate procedures, codes, and standards for design projects based on established industry best practices and applicable manuals. Developing and maintaining efficient systems for managing and updating project documentation, including a computerized record drawing file system.
- Communication & Collaboration : Possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, including engineers, architects, contractors, subcontractors, and military personnel.
- Military Awareness : Demonstrating a working knowledge of relevant military regulations and procedures, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with the military chain of command.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. Also, you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.

Special Note : In addition, in some cases employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
One year of entry-level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Or :
A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution not accredited by ABET.
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.
One year of entry-level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Or :
Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution :
Graduate study in engineering and / or architecture may be substituted for the required experience as an Engineering Assistant 1. (2 semester / 3 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
