The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Yakutat!

What you will be doing:
The primary duties of this position include answering public inquiries about fisheries and wildlife, Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission forms, issuing permits/logbooks and sealing wildlife. In addition to serving the public the position provides administrative, programmatic, logistical and field support such as purchasing, inventory, personnel/payroll, office management, and data entry for Commercial Fisheries, Sportfish and Wildlife Conservation. The incumbent may also participate in field projects when needed.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s mission is to manage, protect, maintain, and improve the fish, game and aquatic plant resources of Alaska. This position contributes to the success of the ADF&G mission by editing and batching fish tickets for in-season harvest tracking, assisting in tracking Sportfish logbook harvest information, collection of biological data used in wildlife management and communicating regularly with fishermen, hunters, processors, other agencies to provide information, answer questions and clarify regulations.

The Yakutat office is small with only three biologists and six technicians who work together to manage Yakutat resources jointly. This environment provides a unique opportunity to work with several ADF&G divisions at once to gain valuable experience of Alaska’s fisheries and wildlife.

The working conditions you can expect:
This position is staffed in the ADF&G office in Yakutat, Alaska. Yakutat is a small community with a diverse population that has a high influx of visitors each summer. The daily work environment consists of working at a desk and assisting in other tasks as necessary. Regular work tasks include answering phones, collecting, editing and entering fish tickets and logbook information, handing personnel/payroll documents, purchasing tasks and assisting the biologist by sealing bears, wolves and other furbearers while collecting biological data.
  • This position works 37.5 hours weekly, Monday through Friday.
  • Occasion travel within the State for meetings or training opportunities.

  • Ability to successfully work with multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with adhering to and meeting timeframes that at times may be pressing.

  • Ability to enter/edit information into state programs such as OceanAk, eVendor, eLandings, WinfoNet and Fish Count Administration.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish, wildlife or habitat resources;
OR
One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures, precedents, and policies in administrative, informative, and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).

A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" is an offense that is (1) a misdemeanor under Federal or state law; and (2) has, as an element, the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian, or by a person similarly situated to a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim.

If you have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, do NOT apply for this position.
