What you will be doing :

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities is seeking a Transportation Planner 1 to join the Data Modernization and Innovation Division. This role focuses on coordinating special projects that align with the division's mission of enhancing transportation systems through data-driven strategies. The ideal candidate will manage project timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communications to ensure successful implementation and progress. Responsibilities include conducting data analysis, developing project plans, and fostering collaboration across various departments. A strong background in transportation, GIS, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to innovation are essential for this position.

  • Transportation Engineering : Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods applicable to planning, designing, and constructing of transportation systems including traffic analysis, signal analysis, highway capacity, pavement design, bridge construction, planning of transportation projects, environmental analysis of transportation facilities, and transportation network analysis.
  • Equivalent to those typically gained by :

  • Post-secondary education in urban, regional, transportation, or landscape planning;
  • AND / OR

    Experience, which involves some combination of the design of research projects, setting standards for technical adequacy, and / or coordinating the planning contributions of lower level planners or other agencies, in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
