Job Summary

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is seeking an experienced professional to join our team. The Budget Officer serves on the executive management team of the Department as the chief budget advisor. Represents the Department on fiscal issues with state legislative and executive entities and other governmental agencies. Plans and directs the management of the Department’s fiscal resources and budgetary processes. Performs related duties as required. This position is designated as uncovered; the incumbent serves at the pleasure of the Director of the Department of Public Safety.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, finance, accounting or closely related field AND eight (8) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in accounting, budgeting, and finance, including two (2) years of supervisory experience and three (3) years of direct interaction with governmental entities. Graduate-level education and training in a related field may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience.

NOTE: One (1) year of work experience is equivalent to thirty (30) semester hours of course work from an accredited college or university.

Office setting.

May be required to work extended hours.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Retirement

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
