The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary

The Correctional Unit Accreditation Specialist is responsible for planning, researching, collecting, and analyzing documentation pertaining to the American Correctional Association Standards. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Functions

Prepares and maintains unit accreditation files utilizing the principles and techniques of an organizational system for an on-site audit every three (3) years by members of the American Correctional Association. Plans, researches, collects, and analyzes documentation pertaining to accreditation, policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures. Provides advice and interpretation of accreditation standards related to state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Provides technical assistance to all areas of institutional operations relative to accreditation. Directs, advises, evaluates, and monitors department management regarding documentation for accreditation files and policies. Develops and writes reports of accreditation projects and their status to the Warden for reporting to the Board of Correction. Schedules, organizes, conducts, and participates in unit accreditation meetings. Develops and writes Annual Certification Statements submitted to the American Correctional Association as to the status of current standards, compliance levels, and updates on plans of action, significant events, quality of life, and health care outcome measures. Serves on agency's audit team. Travels to other institutions and inspects and provides technical assistance in the areas of the physical plant, grounds, accreditation files, and training. Maintains current edition of Accreditation Standards Manual and master accreditation database for institutions. Maintains agency/unit manuals, which include Governor's Directives, Administrative Regulations, Administrative Directives, Administrative Memorandums, Unit Policies, Post Orders and Standard Operating Procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of planning, research, and analysis techniques and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of organizational and systems analysis. Ability to organize and conduct meetings and workshops. Ability to plan and organize comprehensive reports of project findings. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others. Ability to organize and present oral and written reports of findings and recommendations. Ability to review and analyze data. Ability to prepare and interpret reports and statements.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in public administration, general business, criminal justice, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
