Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications to fill at least one (1) Permanent, Full-time Personnel Specialist in the Human Resources - Compensation Unit. The Personnel Specialist is under the direct supervision of the Personnel Supervisor I. Selected incumbent may also be eligible for an annual recruitment and retention payment of $2,400.00 in accordance with Pay Differential 240.
The Personnel Specialist is responsible for payroll and personnel transactions. Typical tasks include but are not limited to : Apply State laws, rules, and regulations, applying and complying with bargaining unit contracts, a variety of personnel / payroll transactions including accurate processing, certifying and reconciling payroll transactions, and employment transactions. Knowledge and expertise in working with various computer systems such as Word, Excel, Access, State Controllers personnel / payroll systems and transactions such as, NDI, SDI, IDL, CSP, PIMS, PIP, Benefits, CLAS etc. are highly desirable.
The successful candidate must have proficient math, computer, oral & written communication skills, flexible to changing situations, dependable, exercise tact & good judgment, maintain confidentiality, meet & adhere to strict deadlines. The individual may be required to work overtime to ensure completion of assignments & projects. Applicants selected for a hiring interview may also be required to complete a mathematical or structured exercise as part of the selection process.

Working Conditions
Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
