A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While most salary offers are made within the posted range, occasionally an offer is made below or above the posted range based upon this salary analysis.Work Environment:
This position is Full-time, is Hybrid (Remote/Home Office w/requirement to report to Work location per business needs)
  • Office hours are typically Mon-Fri, 8 am-5 pm
  • Extended hours during the evening or the weekend may be required by business needs
  • up to 20 % Travel required statewide

    • MEDIUM/Office-Work Site Environment: 
      • Required to sit, view a computer screen, and utilize a keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time
      • May be required to exert up to 10 lbs. of force constantly, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally to move objects (If lifting boxes, documents, mail, or packages of 10 lbs or more)
      • Required lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, walking, squatting, climbing, etc.
      • May Require exposure to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, high elevations, noise, etc.
    • DL Not Required: Required to independently obtain and determine means to complete travel requirements.

The BrainSTEPS CO (Strategies Teaching Educators, Parents and Students) Brain Injury School Re-Entry Consulting Program is a joint project between the Colorado Department of Human Services' Colorado MINDSOURCE Brain Injury Network and Colorado Department of Education (CDE), and is a national model for brain injury educational consulting. This position provides school communities with guidance and technical assistance related to student brain injuries and supports the delivery of educational services for students with a history of acquired brain injury. The Senior Brain Injury Consultant serves as the CDE coordinator for the BrainSTEPS program and is responsible for providing guidance and technical assistance to schools' Concussion Management Teams. 

The final salary is anticipated to fall within the posted salary range, however could be higher or lower depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other qualifications of the preferred candidate while considering internal equity.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain successful working relationships with school communities, the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), the Brain Injury Association of Colorado and other community partners.  
  • Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive system of support for school-aged children with brain injury that addresses education, health and whole-child needs. 
  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive, statewide network of school district based BrainSTEPS CO Brain Injury Consulting Teams. 
  • Provide ongoing support, training and consultation to BrainSTEPS CO teams. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain a statewide network of school building-based Return to Learn Concussion Management Teams. Provide ongoing training and consultation to Return to Learn Concussion Management Teams. 
  • Coordinate with hospitals and community providers, serving students with brain injury to ensure communication with BrainSTEPS CO teams and schools. 
  • Provide education or resources in response to brain injury-related requests from school staff, families, caregivers or community providers.
  • Maintain the Brain Injury and Concussion Action Team listservs and Brain Injury website. 
  • Identify and address personal learning needs through continual self-assessment and self-reflection. 
  • Engage in learning experiences to maintain and advance knowledge, skills and abilities. 
  • Facilitate the evaluation of efforts related to the consultant position, BrainSTEPS CO teams, and Return to Learn Concussion Management Teams as specified in the Inter-agency Agreement between CDE and CDHS for MINDSOURCE.
  • Carry out all duties specified in the Interagency Agreement between CDE and CDHS MINDSOURCE Brain Injury Network.
  • Other duties as appropriate and as assigned by CDE.
MINIMUM EDUCATION  AND EXPERIENCE  REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in one of the areas, including nursing, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy or school psychology. 
QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS: 
Qualifications for Success in the Position:
  • Hold a valid license to practice in Colorado as a registered nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, physical therapist and/or school psychologist, pursuant to Colorado licensing rules. Candidates with a license from outside Colorado will be considered if they meet eligibility requirements to practice in Colorado, and if hired, the employee would need to gain a Colorado license pursuant to Colorado licensing rules.
  • Minimum two (2) years working in the K-12 school setting 
  • Experience working with children who have a history of brain injuries 
  • Experience in program development and improvement Demonstrated ability to work independently Community partnership development skills 
  • Highly proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Products (2017 or newer), including Excel and Office 365 Data collection and evaluation experience 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience managing budgets  
Preferred Qualifications (Preferred/Not Required):
  • Training in pediatric brain injury and experience working with school brain injury teams
  • Preferred virtual and in-person presentation experience with basic understanding of adult learning theory
Conditions of Employment (Required):
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Colorado
  • Qualifies for the CDE licensing as a Special Services Provider.
  • Must be willing and able to submit to the pre-screening process and pass a background check.
  • Ability and willingness to independently determine, obtain means, and complete required travel (percentage 20%)
