Department Information

The purpose of the Structural Trades Department at ASU is to f abricate, install, repair, or renovate structures and utilities at A.S.U. utilizing electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, and locksmithing skills.

Description Of Job

The purpose of the Structural Trades III position is to oversee and coordinate the work activities in the Structural Trades team, oversee and evaluate all Structural Trades personnel, and carry out any other Primary duties that are assigned to them including:

  • Daily supervision and oversight of the Structural Trades crew.
  • Daily management and assignment of work orders to the team.
  • Daily oversight of workload and assistance to the team to ensure proper completion of submitted work orders.
  • Monitors the Structural Trades team interactions with both internal and external customers to ensure a high level of customer service is provided at all times and takes corrective action when appropriate.
  • Position is responsible for being a working supervisor by assisting with the daily workload of the unit by actively engaging in construction, renovation, maintenance, or alteration of campus structures, fixtures, and building equipment.
  • Oversee the Structural Trades Team spending and verify that expenditures are correct while maintaining positive stewardship of State funding.
  • This position is designated as essential Services - required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety and welfare.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

OR

Education And Experience

A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years

  • Leadership and Team Management Skills: Proven ability to supervise a diverse team, delegate tasks effectively, and manage workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to work on a variety of tasks and respond to emergency situations as needed
  • Extensive expertise in building maintenance.
  • Strong Customer Service and Problem-Solving Abilities: A customer-focused mindset to address stakeholder needs promptly and efficiently, paired with the ability to resolve technical and operational challenges creatively and collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial for partnering with key departments across campus.
  • Computer Skills: Experience with maintenance management software or other technology for tracking work orders and inventory.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing, managing, and monitoring project budgets, including cost savings while maintaining quality standards.

*Years of experience will be expressed in terms of full-time equivalent service with full-time workload equal to one (1) Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) year. No more that 1.00 FTE year may be credited in any twelve (12) month period. Positions working 40 hours or less per week will be pro-rated (30 hrs/wk=0.75 FTE=9 mos credit; 20 hrs/wk=0.5 FTE=6 mos credit; 10 hrs/wk=0.25 FTE= 3 mos credit.)*

A successful candidate will demonstrate responsible professional conduct at all times; will be punctual and observe scheduled work hours; will not abuse leave and will follow call-in procedures. the successful candidate will also follow safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment, when required.

Necessary Special requirements: This position is designated as an essential service position and employee is required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety and welfare.

Appeal Rights: (Updated)
