- Responsible for assisting with water sampling, data management, quality assurance and assessment of water data, project management and technical assistance with water grant programs, and evaluating and interpreting water data.
- Duties may include:
- Assisting with the collection of water samples in rivers, lakes and estuaries;
- Assisting with the review of water related data to implement program policy;
- Assisting with maintaining standard operating procedures such as those contained in a quality assurance project plan, grant guidance document, or technical support document;
- Assisting with outreach and response to public communications and requests for information;
- Assisting with data management, statistical evaluation, analysis and report writing;
- Providing task management for meetings and committees, including but not limited to scheduling meetings, drafting agendas and compiling meeting materials;
- Providing project task management tracking and maintaining reporting requirements;
- Reviewing technical documents and grant project proposals to develop recommended actions and alternatives.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In other state agencies this class is accountable for performing a limited range of tasks in the planning, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of environmental program data and issues and assisting in the development of recommendations for courses of action.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assisting with the collection of water samples in rivers, lakes and estuaries;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- College training in a scientific or technical discipline related to the environmental field including but not limited to biological, earth, or physical sciences; environmental planning; environmental law; economics; leisure services; geographic information systems; geography with a concentration in geographic information systems; natural sciences; or natural resources may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
- A Master's degree in a scientific or technical discipline related to the environmental field including but not limited to biological, earth, physical sciences; environmental planning; environmental law; economics; leisure services; geographic information systems; geography with a concentration in geographic information systems; natural sciences; or natural resources may be substituted for five (5) years of the General Experience.
- NOTE: Education may only be substituted for a total of five (5) years.
- For state employees one (1) year of experience as an Environmental Compliance Specialist 2 may be substituted for the General Experience.
- Successful completion of an Environmental Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with field collection of water resource data;
- Experience following policies and procedures;
- Experience working in a team environment to solve problems;
- Experience analyzing spatial data using geographic information systems or programming languages (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, R, Python, JavaScript);
- Experience managing and analyzing water resource data with statistical programs or programming languages (e.g. R, Python, SQL);
- Experience working on projects involving prioritizing and multi-tasking;
- Experience in written communication of technical information to internal and external stakeholders, including with peers, public officials, stakeholder groups and the general public;
- Experience in orally presenting technical information to various audiences;
- Experience reviewing environmental or ecological documents for consistency with State & Federal policies, regulations, and statutes;
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a scientific or technical discipline pertaining to biological, earth, or physical sciences; data science; geographic information systems; geology, ecology, limnology, environmental or natural sciences; or natural resources.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
