Introduction
The Delaware Environmental Laboratory is a full-service lab that tests and assesses water, air, soil, hazardous materials, and biological samples. The lab helps facilitate the management of Delaware’s natural resources and the protection of Delaware’s water resources.
Summary Statement
This position resides in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Environmental Laboratory and will manage the operations of various sections within the Laboratory. They will focus on activities associated with the routine activities of the general chemistry, microbiology, molecular ecology, and field services sections within the laboratory. Duties include project management, data review and approval, managing staff, maintaining laboratory certifications, creating and assuring adherence to laboratory procedures, and managing safety & quality assurance practices. They will plan and direct programs for development and improvement of laboratory services, protocols, methods, and procedures.

- Plans, organizes and supervises professional and technical staff.
- Sets priorities and mediates conflicting priorities; schedules and operates laboratory functions, ensuring cost effective and accurate results.
- Develops, recommends and implements laboratory objectives and policies; oversees and participates in the development of modified / new methods, techniques and procedures.
- Assigns, oversees and reviews analytical work conducted by staff.
- Ensures all work is completed according to various state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Prepares activity and / or statistical reports.
