CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  2. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program. 
  3. The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.
  4. This position is a Cooperative Agreement position.
  5. As a CANDIDATE, you are required to provide documentation (i.e., High School Diploma or Equivalency, College Transcripts, ETC.) to verify meeting these Minimum Qualifications.
  6. Must be able to obtain a completion of a favorable National Agency Check background investigation clearance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in Environmental Science or a science related field AND Three (3) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist or a related field; OR
  • An Associate's Degree from an accredited College or University with major coursework in Environmental Science or a science related field AND Five (5) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist or a related field; OR
  • A High School Diploma AND Seven (7) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist or a related field
  • A valid Florida Driver’s License

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide technical assistance visits to armory personnel with hazardous material/hazardous waste handling to include developing inventories, locating and updating Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), labeling and storage requirements, hazardous waste determination, waste documentation, and record keeping.

 

Conduct internal assessments of armories as required to determine environmental compliance. Review and recommend corrective actions to address non-conformance findings identified during internal and external assessments preformed at armories located within assigned region and statewide.

 

Completes reports on outcomes of assessments as required. Maintains and updates online record keeping and tracking of spreadsheets, tables, graphs and provide specific information pertaining to environmental compliance issues to assist the Environmental Manager and compliance staff.

 

Demonstrates the capability of understanding and applying the rules which include federal, state, local, and Army regulations (RCRA, DOT, HAZWOPER, etc.) and use them properly and efficiently in the assessments and report process.

 

Assist and conduct in-person Environmental Officer trainings at locations within assigned region and statewide.

 

Provide emergency spill response support or responds as needed to release of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes to the environment.

 

Participate in sampling and monitoring activities to obtain data necessary to conduct waste determinations.

 

Assist in developing documentation on the assessment process and results including the review and preparation of EPAS documentation.

  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
  • Ability to collect, evaluates, analyze, and interpret scientific or technical data.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.
  • Ability to understand and follow legislative policy direction as established in Florida Statutes.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to use personal computers.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office.
